Driver Ed: Programs
The interactive in-class program is structured in accordance with the Ministry of Transportation's NEW curriculum standards to support student learning of safe and responsible driving.
Some of the many areas covered are:
- Traffic Laws & Regulations
- Safe & Responsible Vehicle Control
- Collision Avoidance
- Defensive Driving
- Effective Decision Making
- Positive Driving Attitudes
- Driver Distraction
- Risk Perception
- Night and All Weather Driving
- Safe Response to Emergencies
Throughout the program there is continuous evaluation of each student's progress. At Driver Education we strive to have every student be successful.
The flexible learning package is instructor supported and provides for creative extensions to the in-class curriculum. This reinforcement of the safe driving principles will assist students to become safe and responsible drivers for life.
In-class instructors will be available before and after class to assist students with questions or concerns
The in-car instruction includes:
- 1-hour private lessons
- Flexible appointment times
- Teaching adapted to each student's ability behind the wheel
- Student pick up and return to home or school for each lesson
Skills taught include:
- Basic maneuvers
- Defensive driving
- Collision avoidance
- Emergency procedures
- Urban, highway, and freeway driving
- Right of way at intersections
- Parking (all types)
- Preparation for the MTO level one road test
- Final evaluation prior to road test
All students are evaluated during each lesson, areas in need of further practice are identified, and summative evaluation in preparation for the MTO road test is provided.
100% attendance is required with 80% achievement in both the in-class and in-car lessons.
