General interest courses discontinued

The Centre for Education & Training will no longer offer general interest courses effective January 2008. The courses have experienced a steady decline in enrolment, despite all efforts to encourage registrations. 1,908 people registered for the non-credit general interest courses in 2007. The program operated at a deficit of about $75,000. Those who attended these courses -- such as woodworking or cooking -- are being referred to similar programs at the local municipalities or universities (see listing below). Refunds for course fees paid for the winter 2008 session are in process. Letters were sent in December 2007 to the City of Mississauga, Sheridan College and University of Toronto to make them aware of the cancellation so that they might accommodate potential new registrants.
