ELTPA FAQ
Assessor Training
-
- The first phase of ELTPA (6-10) assessor training took place in Ontario in 2005 as a pilot. During that phase, 37 assessors (including trainers) who met the criteria for assessor training were certified to use the ELTPA in Ontario. In May 2008, Citizenship and Immigration Canada, National Headquarters entered into a contractual agreement with the Centre for Education & Training to provide ELTPA (6-10) training to up to 50 assessors across Canada, outside Ontario. This included training 2 trainers who would be responsible for future training in Manitoba and British Columbia. During that training, a total of 45 assessors were added to the pool. In August 2009, CIC-NHQ and TCET launched the National ELTPA Support Services who have committed to:
- provide training in the administration of Enhanced Language Training Placement Assessment (ELTPA) tool to newly identified assessors,
- provide regular calibration and refresher training to trained ELTPA assessors,
- provide support via direct trainer consultation to ensure consistency of administration during the implementation process,
- conduct an inter-rater reliability study drawing on the skills of the assessors using the tool, and
- create a forum for discussion of regional needs/issues related to delivery/administration of ELTPA in ELT programs.
