Language Assessment Services provide English language assessments and referrals for clients seeking language training in Peel, Halton and Dufferin Regions, as well as York Region and Simcoe County. Assessments are free of charge for those who are of legal school-leaving age within their applicable province or territory and who have Landed Immigrant or Convention Refugee status.
In York Region and Simcoe County only, Canadian Citizens and Refugee Claimants wishing to attend classes at the Welcome Centre Immigrant Services are also assessed for free.
For clients not eligible for free assessments, fee-based assessments are available in Mississauga.
Language assessments are conducted by certified language assessors using the following tools:
- Canadian Language Benchmarks Assessment (CLBA)
- Canadian Language Benchmarks Literacy Assessment (CLBLA)
- Canadian Language Benchmarks Placement Test (CLBPT)
- Enhanced Language Training Placement Assessment (ELTPA)

Important Information
- Eligibility must be verified prior to scheduling an appointment, and all fees paid in full if applicable.
- Original documents indicating immigration status in Canada, and photo identification must be presented at the time of assessment.
- Certified assessors conduct the assessments by appointment only.
- The assessment process can take up to 3 hours or more.
- Upon assessment completion, clients are referred to appropriate language training classes.
Language Assessment Centres & Training Provider Services in Peel/Halton/Dufferin provide coordination and support to local language training service providers in the areas of professional development, curriculum delivery, and coordinated marketing. As part of our services we;
- coordinate professional development and special events,
- facilitate the delivery of language training curriculum based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks,
- market language training programs in Peel, Halton and Dufferin,
- liaise with agencies and organizations that provide language training in Peel, Halton and Dufferin, and facilitate partnership connections,
- provide statistical information based on language assessment and demographics to Citizenship and Immigration Canada and partner organizations for planning purposes, and
- design and maintain websites: lincpeelhalton.com and Teaching Resources for Language Instructors.
In York and Simcoe, we provide coordination support to the York Region and Simcoe County Language Training Partner group.
