The Newcomer Information Centres are funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada to assist newcomers settle in Canada. Friendly, multilingual staff provide up to date information and referral to various programs and services in the community to meet clients specific needs. Clients can also access information online or in print format.
The Centre offers comprehensive information, including and not limited to, employment and occupations, credential evaluation, language training, housing, health services, legal issues, citizenship and immigration, and various social, community and recreational services. Furthermore, anyone can access the services as there are no eligibility restrictions.
Information sessions are presented by representatives of Regulatory and Licensing Bodies based on client needs. Additionally, sessions on settlement related topics such as the Landlord Tenant Act, taxation, banking, etc. are presented by staff/government representatives.
The NIC is a walk-in centre, open extended hours to accommodate client needs. For those who cannot access the centre during business hours, an email service is available with a 48 hour response time.
Staff at all locations are certified to provide Commissioners of Oath services. They are able to certify true copies of documents and take statements and oaths. To access this service, clients are requested to book an appointment.
