Youth Opportunities: Employer eligibility
The Youth Opportunities project is designed to match employers with
qualified job-ready youth. Service Canada may
subsidize wages to qualified employers.
We expect that employers will adequately train their new employees over the
subsidized work placement and retain them as full-time employees (this is
not for summer, seasonal or short-term employment). We are looking for
organizations that are willing to partner with Youth Opportunities to
provide these positions.
Highlights of the Program:
- A potential wage subsidy is available to employers.
- Access to resumes of pre-screened and qualified job-ready candidates.
- Resumes of qualified youth are forwarded to the employer, OR employers may
find their own candidates as long as they meet the program's criteria (Instant
Matches).
- Instant match youths are required to register with Youth Opportunities in
person.
- Wage subsidy applications take up to 5-10 business days to process and
approval must be received prior to the new employee start date.
- Interviewing and hiring decisions are the exclusive responsibility of the
employer.
- The youth must be between
the ages of 15-30.
Eligibility Requirements:
Employer Eligibility
- Have a registered business for a minimum of one year.
- Offer full-time positions (does not include seasonal/summer positions) with
a minimum of 20-25 hours per week at a minimum of $9.00 per hour.
- Make all payroll deductions including CPP, E.I. and Income tax.
- Adequately orient the new employee during the subsidized period and retain
them as a full-time employee.
Youth Eligibility
- Between the ages of 15-30 years of age
- Out of full-time school and seeking full-time employment
