How The Program Works
- Project Special Events will be planned and delivered by newcomer and Canadian youth volunteers for the benefit of newcomer youth and their parents.
- Each event will have an attractive & appealing theme while providing information to youth on topics relevant to their needs.
- Activities will help to connect youth with their community and enhance their self-confidence and enjoyment of their new lives in Canada.
- This unique program provides youth with the added benefit of volunteer experience and the development of communication skills while building healthy peer to peer relationships
How Youth Benefit
- Develop the confidence and skills to engage peer through discussion, workshops and events.
- Develop research, event management and public speaking skills.
- Make connections with community service providers, employers and other resources in the community.
- Explore their skills & Interests and learn to connect and contribute to their community.
- Volunteering connects with others in the community.
- Engage not only themselves but friends and families on topics that assist new Canadian youth and families to become more settles in their new community.
How Youth Become Involved
- Join The Youth Exchange Advisory Committee.
- Participate in focus groups.
- Volunteer to assist with the marketing, planning and implementation of mini special events/workshops throughout Peel/ Halton schools and other community locations.
- Participate and attend workshop/ discussion sessions with other youth who are new to Canada in the Peel/ Halton Region.
How Community Partners and Schools Get Involved
- Identify youth who are eligible to attend the series of focus groups, workshops and discussion groups or interested in volunteering with the program.
- Partner with The Youth Exchange Program by providing space to host special events at your site.
- Assist in the promoting of The Youth Exchange Program to newcomer youth and their families.
