On September 27, 2017, a group of students currently enrolled in a local college’s TESL training program visited the Centre for Education and Training for a morning. The students were invited to participate in a pilot testing of a new component for the Canadian Language Benchmarks Online Self-Assessment tool. The day started with an information session providing an overview of TCET’s core programs and services. Guest speakers from LINC Home Study, Language Assessment Centre, and Language Assessment and Support Services provided useful insights into their areas of work describing their roles and providing useful advice. The goal of the info session was not only to introduce TCET’s programs and services, but also to get TESL Trainees to start thinking about careers beyond traditional classroom teaching that might be available to TESL trained individuals within TCET’s Language Services.
