Testimonials

The training was absolutely very helpful. It did not only provide a structure or backbone for people who are planning to do interpretation, but it also provided further understanding of the profession for those who are already in the field. All the topics discussed in the training were made very interesting for the participants. From the session feedbacks, to the lectures, to the lab sessions, all these activities certainly helped each and every one of us to improve our interpreting skills. And of course all these will never be possible without you, Melani and Donna, whose expertise, patience and professionalism definitely was a big help for all of us in the class. After completing the training, I certainly gained more confidence and trust in myself as an interpreter knowing what my role is and abiding by the Ethical Principles taught in class. Hopefully all of us will become successful interpreters one day! And finally, I sincerely hope that TCET will continue to offer this training in the years to come because people who wish to enter the interpretation profession will definitely benefit from it 100%!

Thanks, Kathryn

For starters, this was not just a note-taking academic exercise; for me, it was a learning experience in and of itself. Combining definitions, professional guidelines, lexicons, practical applications and evaluations/feedback, the course provided an enriching tool of theoretical knowledge and realistic implementation. I genuinely felt that I was pursuing an advanced (post graduate) degree having begun this training course as an experienced interpreter but, in many respects, holding only an undergraduate degree.

The instructors and the pedagogic methodology that was applied were both of the highest level: I was pleased to see professionalism, people's skills, complete mastery of material, academic 'bonding' and motivation, to highlight a few… There was passion, dedication and identification on the part of the three of you with the way you approached and taught the course. The degree of personalized attention to each and every student was remarkable. Human sensitivity on the part of the three of you was a shining feature of this Training.

When asked if I had any experience in interpretation on the first day of the program, I confidently replied that I did since I had interpreted for close acquaintances. Little did I know how wrong I was! The Interpreter Training program offered by The Center for Education and Training was a truly informative course that was led by facilitators who were knowledgeable and encouraging. The lessons were presented in a range of formats that were didactic, enjoyable, and that stimulated conversation. This program was of great advantage to me as it clearly delineated the accepted guidelines for interpretation and provided me with the tools that will ensure that I perform my duties as an interpreter as faithfully as possible.  The Interpreter Training Program is an essential first step to anyone who is considering a career in the field of interpretation and translation.

Enrolling my self in the TCET Interpreter Training Course was one of the best decisions I ever took. The program is shaped and conducted in such a professional manner so you will be able to get all the attention and support that you need. If you want to be a professional and you really care about your performances this is the place to go.

Thank you Donna and Annette for your guidance and assistance. Thank you for doing such a great job.

Everybody thinks that they are ready to enter the field of interpretation as long as they understand and speak two languages; but this is not always the case. There are a lot of skills to learn and to improve that we do not realize. Personally, I never thought to have interpretation training because I believed that with my experience I could have handled every situation with professionalism. When you join the program you recognize the pieces you have missed during this process and, still, that there is more to learn and do differently. Practically, what you learn is everything, form A to Z and you identify that what you knew was not enough. The course was extremely valuable to me. Learning on how to be aware of the Code of Ethics and Responsibilities for me as an interpreter, to take notes in order not to miss ideas, to interrupt in case there were difficulties for me interpreting, not to be affected by cultural bias, and to practice with different exercises (tape and video recordings) were something that I would have never learned if I have not attended this training. The most important thing you obtain from the training is the expansion and growth of your vocabulary in different specific field that you might deal in the future while performing this job. All of this makes you a complete person pursuing your duties with great professionalism and reliability. I am definitely sure that I will see the advantages of this course as soon as I'll go on my first assignment.
